Spotlight Conversation to Focus on Music Industry at Entertainment Conference, Nov 30th

Plans for the Hollywood Chamber’s 2017 State of the Entertainment Industry Conference is well under way. The half-day conference will be held at Loews Hollywood Hotel slated for November 30th. The program will start with networking at 8:30 a.m. followed by a comprehensive agenda through 1:30 p.m. Early Bird Special rate through Friday, November 17th is $129. Admission thereafter is $159.

The conference will start with a candid conversation with Def Jam Recordings Co-founder and hip-hop icon Russell Simmons. Discussion will revolve around current projects such as the return of Def Comedy Jam to HBO, and how the change in industry trends have made an impact on projects.

Russell Simmons, Chairman & CEO of Rush Communications, is an entrepreneur, producer and author. He co-founded the hip-hop music label Def Jam Recordings in 1983 and created the clothing fashion lines Phat Farm, Argyleculture, and Tantris. Simmons' company, Rush Communications Inc. includes over a dozen businesses and three non-profits. In 2017, Simmons was listed by UK-based company Richtopia at number 23 in the list of 200 Most Influential Social-Entrepreneurs and Philanthropists Worldwide.

Simmons will be interviewed by Andrew Barker, Senior Features Writer at Variety.

The Entertainment Conference will also include the presentation of the Commitment to California Award, which will go to an entertainment executive who has made a tremendous impact on our great state. Past honorees have included Ted Sarandos, Roy Price, Vin Di Bona, Michael Chiklis, Shawn Ryan, and Anthony E. Zuiker.

Susanne Ault of Variety and Kristin Cavanaugh of Sony Pictures Entertainment are co-chairs of the 2017 State of the Entertainment Industry Conference. Vin Di Bona will return in his role as emcee for the sixth consecutive year.
